| Description | A term readopted during WW2 by the Royal Navy to describe an anti-submarine escort vessel that was larger than a corvette and smaller than a destroyer; anti-submarine escorts had previously been classified as sloops. It possessed less offensive firepower and speed than a destroyer, but such qualities were not required for anti-submarine warfare. |
