Description A Royal Navy officer who commanded the submarines HMS H43 and Splendid during WW2 and became a prisoner of war in Italy from 21 Apr 1943 when Splendid was scuttled, later escaping. In 1964 he became Admiral President of the Royal Naval College, Greenwich, from May 1965 to Dec 1967 was Flag Officer Submarines and from 1967 Flag Officer Scotland and Northern Ireland.
