Name Derek Aldwin 'Tommy' Grant
Description A British Officer of the Royal Air Force, a barrister born in Burma who joined the RAF in 1940, he led the Glider Pilot force on D-Day to secure the road crossing over the Caen canal which became known as Pegasus Bridge. He was given command of the training and operation because of his experience gained from earlier glider operations in North Africa and Sicily. After the war he continued within the law, gaining silk and eventually becoming a Judge.
